Quick Answer
Many customers can start an ICEGIANT custom grillz order using our at-home impression kit without scheduling a separate dentist appointment.
However, an at-home mold is not a dental examination. If you have tooth pain, active cavities, gum problems, loose teeth, braces, crowns, veneers, implants, or recent or upcoming dental work, consult a licensed dentist before ordering.
If you already have a professional dental scan or model, contact ICEGIANT before sending it so we can confirm whether the file or model is compatible with our production process.
| Your Situation | Recommended Path |
| Stable teeth, no pain or recent treatment | Start with the ICEGIANT at-home mold kit |
| Already have a pro dental scan/mold or STL file | Contact us first to verify compatibility |
| Pain, cavities, gum issues, or loose teeth | See a dentist first |
| Currently wearing braces / aligners | Wait until orthodontic treatment is fully complete |
| Have crowns, veneers, implants, or complex fillings | Consult your dentist AND ICEGIANT before ordering |
| Upcoming dental cleaning, fillings, or treatments | Complete treatment and ensure tooth shape is stable before molding |

Why Some Custom Grillz Don’t Require a Dentist Visit
A separate dentist appointment is not part of ICEGIANT’s standard ordering process for many customers. We have streamlined the process so you can handle the initial steps from the comfort of your home.
The ICEGIANT Standard Process:
Choose Style: Customer selects their custom grillz style.
Receive Kit: ICEGIANT ships out the at-home impression kit.
Take Impression: Customer completes the tooth mold at home.
Photo Check: Customer sends clear photos to our support team for a preliminary check.
Ship Back: The physical mold is mailed back to us.
Production: Once the mold passes final inspection, production begins.
Important: The impression records the shape of your teeth for custom jewelry production. It does not diagnose cavities, gum disease, bite problems or other dental conditions.
What ICEGIANT Can—and Cannot—Check
It's important to understand the difference between a mold inspection and a medical exam.
ICEGIANT CAN Check:
If tooth contours are clear and accurate.
If the gum line and necessary depth are fully captured.
If the mold is shifted, distorted, or has holes.
If there is enough information for production.
If a new mold is required.
If submitted digital files meet formatting and detail needs.
ICEGIANT CANNOT Check:
Presence of cavities.
Gingivitis or periodontal disease.
If teeth are loose.
Need for fillings, root canals, or other treatments.
If wearing grillz is safe for your specific health condition.
If teeth will shift in the future due to orthodontics or treatment.
Note: Mold approval means the impression is usable for production. It does not mean that ICEGIANT has examined or certified your oral health.
When Should You See a Dentist First
Symptoms of Tooth or Gum Issues
(Do not take an impression if you experience any of the following)
*Toothache
*Gum swelling or bleeding
*Loose teeth
*Untreated cavities
*Unexplained sensitivity
*Signs of oral wounds or infection
*Undergoing Orthodontic Treatment (If you wear braces or aligners, your teeth are constantly moving. A mold taken today may be invalid in a week, and finished grillz likely won't fit. Wait until treatment is completely finished and teeth are stabilized)
*Recent or Upcoming Dental Work (This includes fillings, crowns, veneers, implants, extractions, reshaping, or anything that alters the tooth exterior)
Core Rule: Custom grillz are made to match the shape of your teeth at the time the impression is taken. If that shape changes after dental treatment, the finished grillz may no longer fit.
Can You Get Grillz with Crowns, Veneers or Implants
Some customers with crowns, veneers, fillings, missing teeth or other dental restorations may still be able to order custom grillz, but these cases require individual review.
Crowns / Veneers: A dentist must judge if the impression process, friction, or sustained pressure is safe for your restorations.
Fillings: If a filling alters your tooth shape, you must take the mold after the treatment is finished.
Implants: Implants behave differently than natural teeth. Professional judgment is required.
Missing Teeth: Design adjustments are often possible, but we need to review photos first.
Removable Dentures: Compatibility is not guaranteed and requires a case-by-case review.
Next Step: Send clear photos to ICEGIANT for a preliminary design review, and consult your dentist about the condition of any existing dental work. (ICEGIANT evaluates design feasibility; your dentist evaluates oral health risks).
At-Home Mold vs Professional Dental Scan
| At-Home Impression Kit | Professional Dental Scan (STL) | |
| Best For | Most customers with stable, natural teeth who can take an accurate mold | Customers with complex dental work, existing digital scans, or who prefer professional handling |
| Location | At home | Dental clinic or professional facility |
| Cost | Usually included in your ICEGIANT order | Additional dental fees may apply |
| Advantages | Convenient, cost-effective, no appointment needed | Precise digital details; eliminates physical mold shipping |
| Limitations | Incorrect impression technique may require a retry | Not all digital file formats are compatible with ICEGIANT systems |
| Auto-Approval? |
No — physical mold must be reviewed |
No — format, scope, and detail accuracy must be verified |
Either method may provide usable production information when completed correctly, but every mold or scan must be reviewed before production begins.
What Happens If Your At-Home Mold Is Rejected
We do not begin making your grillz the moment a mold arrives. Our team thoroughly inspects it first. If the impression is too shallow, distorted, shifted, or lacks detail, it will be rejected.
You will be asked to follow customer service instructions to take new photos.
We may require you to redo the mold.
Production only begins after a usable mold is confirmed.
Your estimated production timeline starts from the date of final mold approval.
We promise never to force a production on a bad mold just to rush an order. Your fit matters most.
Does a Good Mold Guarantee a Comfortable Fit
A clear and accurate impression gives the production team better information to create the grillz. Final comfort can also be affected by tooth shape, dental restorations, changes in the teeth after molding and individual sensitivity.
When you receive your grillz:
Never force them onto your teeth.
Do not drastically bend or alter them yourself.
Following ADA guidelines for consumer jewelry: limit wearing time, remove them before eating, and clean them daily.
If you experience sustained pain, bleeding, severe pressure, or cannot easily remove them, stop wearing them immediately. Take photos/videos and contact ICEGIANT. If oral health symptoms persist, contact your dentist.
FAQ
Do I need a dentist to take an ICEGIANT mold?
Most customers can use the at-home mold kit, but taking an at-home mold is not a substitute for a dental check-up.
Does ICEGIANT provide dental treatment?
No. ICEGIANT makes removable custom jewelry. We do not diagnose or treat dental issues.
Can my dentist take the impression for me?
Yes, you can ask your dentist, but please contact ICEGIANT beforehand to confirm the required tooth range, file formats (for scans), and production requirements.
Can ICEGIANT use an STL file?
Possibly, but it must be reviewed first. We cannot guarantee that all STL files are directly compatible with our production systems.
Can I use an old mold?
If your teeth haven't moved, you haven't had dental work, and the mold is in perfect condition, it might be usable. You must confirm with us before ordering.
Should I get a dental cleaning before taking the mold?
Maintaining normal oral hygiene is fine. If you have known dental issues or upcoming treatments, consult your dentist and finish treatments that might alter your tooth shape before taking a mold.
Can I order while wearing braces or aligners?
It is highly discouraged because your teeth are actively moving.
Does mold approval mean my teeth are healthy?
No. It only means the mold provides enough physical detail for jewelry production.
